Malabrigo is a family owned yarn company that is located in Uruguay and they have developed a line of Hand-Dyed yarns of incredible softness and wonderful color variations. Their products are made out of the softest fibers available and inspired by nature, landscapes, places, art and everyday life. And that is what they try to represent in the names of our 17 different yarns and more than 300 colors.

Malabrigo produces yarn because they are passionate about it. They believe in the pleasure of knitting with good-quality, carefully designed, subtly painted yarns and in the joy of wearing whatever is made out of them.

Shepherd’s Wool Yarn is made from a wonderfully soft Merino top. Merino is the softest of sheep’s wool. It is washed, combed into top, and dyed to my specifications. We then pindraft it, often blending additional colors (all the heathery colors are blends), and spin it on my machines.

The three ply worsted weight yarn is spun to 1000 yards per pound, which in 4-ounce skeins is 250 yards per skein. The 3 ply fingering weight is spun to 2300 yards per pound, which in a 1.6 ounce skein is 230 yards per skein.  This yarn is worsted spun, meaning it’s very very smooth and almost shiny in appearance. It will give great stitch definition for intricate patterns such as lace, cables, and knit/purl patterns.

At Lorna’s Laces days are spent hand dyeing some of the world’s finest yarns with the most beautiful colors.  Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock is a fantastic yarn for both socks and other items that require a lighter gauge yarn. Shepherd Sock takes the dye color beautifully and you’ll have fun exploring these fabulous color combinations.
